the Gear Man Tech Note: Dodge
used Saginaw type CV shafts in full size trucks from Late 1975
to 1993. All 3 joints on factory shafts used internal
c-clips. These shafts
can be identified by the round flange that bolts to the transfer case with
four 7/16" USS hex head bolts (5/8" wrench size).
Early shafts had 1-1/4" diameter, 16 full-length spline Detroit
Universal slip yokes and stubs. The seal was
retained by 4 bend over tabs. In 1987, a 29
based on 30 involute spline slip yoke and stub was introduced
and used through the 1993 model year.
You may also find the original Saginaw
type CV
shaft has been modified with a different slip stub/yoke or replaced by a special Spicer built shaft. The
transfer case flange on Spicer conversion shafts is of
half-round configuration. If you need a kit for one of these

Tech Note: On 1989-1992 trucks , the factory front
joint (to pinion yoke) was a tiny
7260 series joint with
1-1/16" diameter caps , due to clearance issues, we
supply a heavy-duty, hot-forged greaseable u-joint to
fit the slip yoke on these years. For 1993, Dodge
went to the larger 7290 series u-joint with 1-1/8"
diameter caps. Kits Made in U.S.A. except
boot clamps are Made in Canada. |

u-joints in 1993 Diesel trucks, however Dodge does
catalog this joint for both 1992 and 1993 gas and Diesel
