The Dana-Spicer, Model 44 216 Front Beam-Design Iron (FBI) axle was used on all 1994-1997 gas V8 powered, light duty, Ram 2500 trucks with Gross Vehicle Weights (GVW) under 8800 pounds. If you have a gas 8800 pound or higher GVW Ram 2500 truck, or one with either the Cummins Diesel or V10 engine, then you have a Model 60, so refer to our 1994-1999 or 2000-2002 Model 60 pages. All 1994-2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Dana-Spicer Model 44 Front Axles in Dodge Ram trucks had a Bill of Material Number (BOM) stamped on a Build Tag (red arrow) attached to the differential by two of the differential cover bolts (yellow arrows) when the vehicle was shipped from the factory. The BOM number is a 6 digit number beginning with a 6 plus a dash number (ex: 610604-2). They can be used to determine not only the axle model, but also what components the axle was originally built with. We often ask for this number to insure we provide you with the exact parts you need for your truck.

Each different BOM number signifies an engineering part change which may be minor or major and may involve one or more parts. Unfortunately, these tags are often missing on trucks that had prior differential service dash number indicates the axle ratio.
For 1994 Ram 2500 3.54 ratio is a -4, 3.92 ratio is -1, 4.09 ratio is -2
For 1995-1997 Ram 3.54 ratio is a -1, 3.92 ratio is -2, and 4.10 ratio is -3

The only difference between ABS and non-ABS axles is ABS outer shafts have a pressed on cast tone ring/slinger which was used on 1994-1997 trucks with external ABS sensors, while non-ABS outer shafts had a tin slinger.  Our Outer Axle Shafts have ABS  tone rings so they will fit both ABS or non-ABS axles. So even though the tone ring may look different than what you have, it will seamlessly interchange with absolutely no problems for fit or function. 


Dan the Gear Man® Tech® Note 2:
Over the years, Dana Engineers have made two significant design changes to the threaded end of QU40325 Outer Axle Shafts (Click Here to See Image of Thread Changes). The first change was to shorten the thread length about 3/8" by removing the threads from the outer end of the Axle Shaft. (From the Cotter Key hole out is now un-threaded). By doing so, the chances of stripping threads when removing the nut are reduced. The second change was to flatten a portion of the remaining threads to function as a locking feature. So don't be alarmed when you see an area of mashed looking threads on your new axle shaft that looks like somebody whacked it with a hammer. According to Dana engineering, this is to provide greater resistance to the nut backing off. The Torque specification remains unchanged and you must still use a Cotter Key.

QU40107 Axle Shaft Bushing for Dodge Ram Disconnect Axle Shaft is a very common part to wear out. This genuine, original equipment bushing fits inside the inner end of your right inner axle shaft (QU40308). It is the only direct support for right axle shaft assembly besides the wheel hub.

QU40292 Support Bearing for Dodge Ram Intermediate Shaft On early production (1994-1997) Model 44 front axles in Dodge Ram 4x4 trucks This bearing was used to support the Intermediate Shaft (QU40333) Later production (1997.5 and up) axles used plastic QU40320 bushing which is totally interchangeable with this bearing. QU40292 Bearing is located in your right axle tube, just to the left of the rectangular CAD opening. This genuine original equipment, press-fit bearing supports the splined end of the differential output (what Dodge calls the intermediate shaft).

Horse Towing Sled
Winter can be fun or you can hate it. We go for the fun part. Here Dan the Gear Man and Jet give Dan's daughter and grandsons a sled ride. Here it is at a walk, but when the boys get a bit bigger, the speed goes up to as fast as Jet (who is aptly named) can go through the fields and over the dales. Hard to say who has the most fun though, because everybody including Jet looks forward to making snow fly on cold, crisp days.
