  Axle Universal Joint: Dodge beefed up the axle u-joints and spindle parts on some axles in mid-year 1972, however the older design parts continued to be used for some drivetrain combinations into the 1973 model year. Before ordering axle u-joints or spindle parts, verify the diameter of the axle universal joint cups.
1971: Axle U-Joint Cup Size is 1-1/16"
1972 and 1973: Axle U-Joint Cup Size can be either 1-1/16" or 1-3/16"

Axle Universal Joints
Dodge increased the axle u-joint size on some axles in mid-year 1972, however the older, smaller u-joints continued to be used for some drivetrain combinations into the 1973 model year. Before ordering axle u-joints, verify the diameter of the axle universal joint cups!
1972 and 1973: Axle U-Joint Cup Size can be either 1-1/16" (Small) or 1-3/16" (Medium)
1974 and 1975: Axle U-Joint Cup Size is 1-3/16" (Medium)
For the early, small 1-1/16" u-joint we have only one non-greaseable choice as the small cross will lose too much strength if drilled for lube channels. We offer three different 1-3/16" Universal Joints. All are good, reliable products, but different manufacturing techniques and seal types will have a major influence on the ultimate life of the joint under most conditions.
