Parts for GM Muncie SM465, CH465 4 Speed Manual Transmissions in Chevy and GMC Trucks

General Motors used the SM465/CH465 4 Speed Manual Transmission in full size Blazer/Jimmy, Suburbans, and 1/2 ton to 1 ton trucks from 1968 to 1991 in both 4x4 and 4x2 configurations. 465 series transmissions were also used in medium duty trucks up to 2 ton class. The SM465/CH465 manual transmissions are comparable in strength and durability to Borg Warner T98/T18/T19 and New Process NP435 4 speeds of the same era. 465 series transmissions have synchronized 2nd through 4th gears and a constant mesh 1st gear. Because 465 series transmissions use bushings instead of bearings to support 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears, these transmissions can experience wear issues when used for extensive slow speed work such as weed spraying. However, for most applications the SM465/CH465 4 speed was and is tough and reliable.

product note

GM SM465/CH465 4 speed manual transmissions in 4x4 trucks all used a 10 spline mainshaft (rear output shaft) through 1980. In 1981, all models except K30/K35 one ton trucks with NP205 transfer cases changed to a 32 spline shaft. Four Wheel Drive One ton trucks continued to use the 10 spline rear output through 1984. All 1985 to 1991 SM465/CH465 4x4 transmissions have 32 spline mainshafts.
