QU10131 NV4500 5 Speed Manual Transmission Shift Lever Boot


QU10131 Shift Lever Boot for Early New Venture NV4500 5 Speed Manual Transmissions is also known as the Shift Stub Seal, Shift Tower Seal, or Shift Lever Seal. These New Old Stock (NOS) Boots/Seals are genuine New Venture Gear parts for 1992 to 1997 Dodge and 1992 to 1994.5 GM New Venture NV4500 series 5 speed manual transmissions. These early production transmissions have a shift cover with an integral round shift tower. QU10131 Seal slips over the shift stub and it snaps into a groove in the aluminum tower.

Your shift lever must be removed from the shift stub to install this seal. GM and 1992-1993 Dodge Shift levers are threaded so you simply remove the floor boot(s) and unscrew the right hand thread shift lever. 1994-1997 Dodge levers are pressed onto a vertical square shift stub. QT2025 special Puller/Installer is used to press the shift lever on/off. Sometimes the friction spring in the shift lever is weak and you can pull the shift lever off by hand.

New Venture built NV4500 transmissions with two types of shift covers. 1992-1994.5 GM and 1992-1997 Dodge models have covers with integral towers and use QU10131 Seal. Later model transmissions have flat tops and use removable towers. We do not have the rectangular seal used on the removable shift towers.

Lubricants, Sealants, Threadlockers:
Early production NV4500 Transmissions used an anaerobic sealant (QU90003) to seal between the main case and input bearing retainer, top cover, and rear housing. Mid-production units used anaerobic sealant just on the input retainer and RTV for everything else. Later production transmissions used black RTV Sealant (QU90006 or QU90005) for everything. Either type of sealant works fine (except the PTO covers ALWAYS should be sealed with RTV), but I prefer RTV for all components. Regardless of which sealant you use, make sure excess sealant does not block the lube access hole at the top of input retainer pilot that fits into the transmission case. Also, the threaded holes in the main case for the four retainer bolts and 12 PTO bolts are open ended, so you must use new bolts with factory applied threadlocker or apply Threadlocker (S24200) to your existing bolts to prevent oil seepage past the bolt threads.
