The original NP205 Rear Output Shaft has a tendency to shear under high loads due to the design of the oil feed slots. This weak point was not a big issue with the low power gas engines available when the NP205 was introduced in 1969, but it became a big issue towards the end of the the NP205's production life especially with the high-torque Cummins Diesel engine available in Dodge trucks from 1989 to 1993. TK50084 is a direct replacement for any Chevy, Dodge, Ford, GMC, or IHC NP205 Transfer Case with a fixed rear output yoke and a PLASTIC speedometer drive gear. The shaft will physically fit early production NP205 transfer cases with steel speedometer drive gears, HOWEVER, the steel speedometer gear and steel spacer WILL NOT fit the TK50084 shaft! We do not have any concrete information about which plastic drive gears would work with early production driven gears
