Axle Universal Joints
General Motors used an small axle universal joint with tiny 1-1/16" diameter u-joint cups for the 1969 to 1972 Dana 44 open knuckle front axles. The physical dimensions of this series of axle joint means is marginal for full size truck applications which is why it was replaced by a medium size axle u-joint with 1-3/16" cups for the 1973 model year. QU40792 1969-1972 Chevy, GMC Dana 44 Front Axle Shaft U-Joint is a hot-forged, original equipment, non-greaseable, front axle shaft universal joint with 1-1/16" diameter cups. This is the strongest production u-joint we know of for this application.

QU40031 Outer Spindle Nut for 1968-1972 4x4 Chevy and GMC Blazer, Jimmy, 1/2 ton, and 3/4 ton Dana 44 Front Axle is tightened against your QU40060 Spindle Lock Washer to keep it in place and it acts as a jam nut effectively locking both spindle nuts and the washer together.
