CV MOUNTING FLANGE: The QU40761 mounting flange on Saginaw Double-Cardan CV Joints as used with original equipment 1977-1991 Chevy and GMC front CV shafts can be identified by the following features:
5" outside diameter, 4 bolt Round Flange mates to the Transfer Case Output Flange using 4 QU10806 7/16" Bolts that fit through holes in CV Flange and thread into your Transfer Case Output Flange. Note: If you have a CV mounting flange is half-round, your driveshaft has an aftermarket Spicer type CV head.

CV CENTER YOKE: The Saginaw CV Center Yoke has squared off ends. The 1-1/8" diameter holes for the u-joints have a 3-1/4" center to center dimension. Plastic injected into grooves machined in the yokes and u-joint cups retains the factory installed universal joints. TK40725 and QU40758 replacement universal joints are kept in place by spring steel C-Clips that fit in a groove machined on each u-joint cup. When installed, the C-Clips will be against flats machined on the inside faces of the yokes. Note: If you have CV u-joints with external snap rings, your driveshaft has either been through a major rebuild or it is an aftermarket replacement driveshaft assembly.

Constant Velocity Parts
n The now obsolescent Saginaw Double Cardan CV Joint used by Dodge on 1977-1991 Chevy and GMC full size 4x4 trucks was quite durable as long as the CV Centering Ball was greased every now and again. The simple Saginaw centering ball and socket is easier to grease, longer lasting and cheaper to repair than Spicer CV Ball that uses needle bearings especially under poor maintenance conditions. However the Spicer type CV can run at a greater angle.

QU40838 CV Ball Inner Washer a replaces worn or damaged Lower Seat Washer in your Flange Yoke. Included in QU40741 and QU407452 CV Parts Kits.
QU40839 CV Ball Outer Washer a replaces worn or damaged Upper Seat Washer in your Flange Yoke. Included in QU40741 and QU407452 CV Parts Kits.
QU40836 CV Dust Shield replaces a damaged or missing Dust Shield on your Ball Stud Tube Yoke. Needs to be Tack Welded on your Ball Styd Tube Yoke.
QU50038 CV Flange Yoke Liner replaces a damaged liner in your CV Flange Yoke.
QU40817 Hardened Steel Centering Ball is a press-fit on the Ball Stud Tube Yoke Centering Stud. Included inQU407452 CV Parts Kit.
Dan the Gear Man Tech Tip: The QU40817 replaceable hardened steel centering ball MUST be replaced if it shows any evidence of wear. Ideally, an expensive, specialized puller is used for removal, however you can remove the ball by carefully slitting it with a die grinder.

S9975 Anti-Seize Lubricant will keep the CV flange from rusting to the transfer case output flange when applied to the male-female pilot that centers the shaft flange to the output flange.

TK40725 Torque King® CV U-Joint,  cold-forged, alloy steel, non-greaseable factory synthetic-lubed u-joints for the Constant Velocity Joint.  2 of these joints are used in the CV Joint (upper or transfer case end of shaft) on 1977-1991 Chevy and GMC full size 4x4's.
